Passing on

I brought back the site in hope that someone else would want to carry it on and move forward, but I’m not sure if anyone would want to do this?  Someone mentioned this to me before it was taken down, so I’m waiting to hear back from them.  I still can’t update the site as much as I used to or work on covering all the workings of cycling in this city since I need to find work.  If anyone is interested they could send me an email to bikewindsor@gmail.com.

Another reason I brought it back was for the community also.  It’s why I started the site in the beginning in hopes of bringing cyclists together in an online forum or website.  Anyone is still welcome to register and post to the site.  If you scroll way down on the right to the meta section and click on log in it should bring you to a screen where you can register a WordPress account, then you can add this blog and I can set you up to post on it.  If you can leave a comment here to let me know so I can make sure to add you to the list of writers.

Bike Windsor Returns

I’m so glad I decided to try to get the site back up and running before it was too late.  I owe great thanks to Ryan, one of the tech gurus at WordPress for having a backup of it and putting the site back up.  I just got off the phone with godaddy and soon the domain will be back online too, then I will map it to this WordPress blog to correct the domain back to bikewindsor.com.

I originally wanted to take a break from this site since running it for the past year has caused me a lot of stress.  That led to anger from some and resulted in me taking the site down because I felt it wasn’t worth the stress anymore.  I don’t know if people will use it now that I’m able to put it back up.  I only received a few emails from people who were sad to see it go, but some of them were also disappointed so I wanted to try to fix that.

All the authors will have to register once again since they were lost on the import and that was out of my control.  Hopefully the site can make a peaceful return shortly.  I’ve renewed the domain mapping here at WordPress and just entered the new nameservers at godaddy, so hopefully in a little while the site will show back up under bikewindsor.com.

Glide and Slide

After having a wonderful talk downtown tonight, I was riding home on University and almost was hit by a police car when 2 flew through a red light with only their lights on, but thankfully the second one stopped for me. I’m glad they were paying attention. I was too, but it’s hard to stop a bike on a dime. I slid for a little ways and almost fell, but all is well. I always stop at red lights, but I was caught off guard when police were going against the red light. You have to be aware of everything to survive out there.

It was so nice to ride my road bike tonight for the first time since the snow fell. Thank you once again to Ambassador Bikes for setting me up with those new tires today. They were easy to install and feel quite solid. No flats tonight and I ran over a lot of junk out there. Having the lighter frame and efficient geometry as well as the larger gears I was finally able to fly home. It felt so good after riding that inefficient hybrid I’ve been using this winter. It’s still what I’d probably like to ride through winter on, or in a rain storm, but not what I ride for pleasure or speed.

I’m still not sure what I will do with this site, but after talking tonight my mind is thinking of many things. So I don’t really know what the future holds right now. Only time will tell. Right now I just need a break.

Winter Cycling in Chicago

This video brought a smile to my face today. : )

Picked up some new tires for my road bike today at Ambassador Bikes, and some Sugio SubZero leg warmers as an alternative from my Sugio SubZero tights. Just put the new tires on, but not sure if I will take the road bike downtown tonight. My commuter has fenders so it will keep me more dry. Hoping to go for a morning ride with Rob tomorrow though on the road bike.

Regarding the Riverfront Trail

February 17, 2010
by bike windsor

I received a message back from Don Sadler regarding my concern over the poor access to the East section of the Riverfront Trail today. I was glad to receive this good news. Thank you Alan Halberstadt for passing on my concern to the Parks and Recreation Dept.

“The trail was completed yesterday. There was some confusion with our operators as to what portions of the trail were open & closed due to the RTB construction. We expect this situation to be rectified now for the rest of the winter season.”

Another interesting story about cyclists missing out on a bridge in Ohio that includes a music video talking about how we need to work together. : ) More info HERE as well.

Portland Bicycle Plan Passes – Get’s 20 Million

February 12, 2010
by bike windsor

http://bikeportland.org/2010/02/11/the-bike-plan-live-from-city-council/

“After dispatching with Saltzman’s amendment, saying “I think this plan deserves better in terms of a funding source,” Adams proposed a new funding concept that will commit $20 million to bike projects. Adams said he’ll return to council in 30 days with more details on the “kickstart funding option,” but for now he said, “It shows our support for getting going with a bang.”

If only we had that sort of spirit here. Funding has slowly been disappearing, year after year. But it’s like the old saying goes, “If you don’t use it, you lose it” which City Councillor Alan Halberstadt said so well at recent Windsor Bicycling Committee meetings.
