Product Review – Swagman Retro Basket
Picked up this Swagman “retro basket’ at MEC a couple of weekends ago, and have finally been able to test it out.
Installation was super easy – only a couple of screws to tighten. It has a quick-release mechanism so that you can take the basket with you when you park the bike, or take it into the store with you when shopping. The basket is metal, and seems quite sturdy. It held up just fine when fully loaded with groceries.
The only downsides are that because it mounts to the handlebars/stem, the basket would block any headlights mounted on the handlebars. Also, when the basket is not mounted, you have a strange-looking bright red contraption sticking off the front of your bike.
There are several online retailers that carry the same/similar baskets.
I’ve had two of these. It’s a nifty basket but it doesn’t take much weight unfortunately. I stopped using mine after the second one broke. I know it was my fault for overloading it, but I’m disappointed nevertheless that it didn’t work out for me.
Thanks for the headsup. Its only rated for 7kg, so I guess it can’t take TOO much groceries.
I have this one as well. You are right about the position and headlights.
Also, my bike fell over onto its side once and it really bent the basket. That was disappointing.
But it goes on and off easily.
